Jake Rand, a senior from Winthrop, Mass., has been chosen for the focus of this installment of the “Endicott Student-Athlete Spotlight” for his works both on the field of competition, and even more important, off of it. Jake, who is a member of the men's ice hockey team and had played varsity golf for three years, is a Business Administration major at Endicott. We were able to catch up with the senior defenseman and ask him a few questions for our new segment.
Why did you choose to be a Division III
student-athlete?
I chose to be a student athlete because I have been an
athlete my whole life and being able to play two sports at a higher
level is more than I could have imagined
What do you like most about being a student-athlete at
Endicott?
Being a student athlete at Endicott really gives you the
opportunity to make some great relationships. I have met so many
great people from athletics that I wouldn't have.
What are some of the greatest lessons you have learned
from being a student-athlete?
I have learned some great lessons from being a student
athlete, but the greatest I would say is to really soak in every
single moment. The last three years have flew by and I am realizing
how special it is to be a student athlete
Who have been the most influence people in your athletic
career?
I have had many influential people in my athletic career,
but the most would be my parents. From the early morning practices
to driving me the course I can’t thank them enough for how
much time and effort they have put towards my athletic
career.
How would your teammates describe you?
I would say hardworking. If there's one thing I hate its
losing
Do you have any pre-game/pre-event rituals? If so, what
are they?
I really don't, I guess if any it would be to get to the
rink or the course earlier than most to prepare and
warm-up
What is your greatest sports moment?
In high school my hockey team played on Fenway. My
greatest moment is when I scored the first goal of the game. We
ended up winning
Which public figure (athlete, politician, entertainer,
etc) would you most like to meet and what one question would you
ask them?
Floyd Mayweather. What does it take to be
great?
What internships have you completed (or are a part of
now)? What benefit have you gotten out of them?
I have completed internships at The Packaging Team,
Boston University and I am currently completing my semester-long
internship for EBSCO Industries. Internships have really given me
an insight into the business world and have helped me discover more
of what I want to do after Endicott.
If you have been involved in community service projects,
what project has been the most rewarding and why?
I have helped out in multiple hockey camps over the
summer. It’s great to see kids learn and discover a love for
the game.
Name three things on your "bucket list".
Skydiving, travel a little bit and complete a
triathlon
Where do you see yourself in 10 years after graduation?
What is your dream job?
I'm not really sure where I see myself in 10 years. I
don't really have a dream position, but I can see myself owning my
own business.
What would you say to someone currently in high school
who is considering attending Endicott?
I would say that coming to Endicott has been one of the
best choices I have ever made. The community, athletics and
academics are some of the best. I have met some great people and
have made some great relationships that will last a lifetime.
Is there something about you that we don't know? Tell is
something special about yourself that we haven't asked!
A lot of people don't know I was born on Christmas
Day.
