Drew Sawyer, a sophomore from Norwalk, Conn., has been chosen for the focus of this installment of the “Endicott Student-Athlete Spotlight” for his works both on the court, and even more important, off of it. Drew is a Sport Management major that has been a member of the men's basketball team for both of his years at Endicott. During that time, he has become the team's leading bench scorer, averaging 7.9 ppg this year. We were able to catch up with the sophomore and ask him a few questions for the Spotlight.
Why did you choose to be a Division III
student-athlete?
I wanted to go to a school in which I could come in and play,
giving the team a spark that they needed. Compared to Division I
and II it is very time consuming and I feel that you do not receive
a full college experience. With Division III you are able to play
the sport you love, focus on academics, and be able to have a
social life. At the end of the day I felt that Endicott was a great
fit for me and has been a wonderful experience thus far.
What do you like most about being a student-athlete at
Endicott?
The bond that I have with my teammates and coaches is great.
Together we all have the same goal on the court which has brought
us closer together. Also the people I have met off the court
because of basketball has been a great experience and has
introduced me to many people all over campus.
What are some of the greatest lessons you have learned
from being a student-athlete?
One of the greatest lessons I learned from being a student-athlete
is how to never quit or give up, fight through anything that
happens because it will make you stronger. I use the lessons I
learn on the court in my life off of the court as well.
Who have been the most influence people in your athletic
career?
My family and my friends have a great influence on my athletic
career.
How would your teammates describe you?
My teammates would describe me as someone who is a hard working
individual who is passionate and always wiling to help
others.
Do you have any pre-game/pre-event rituals? If so, what
are they?
Tap my heart four times and point up before I enter the game.
What is your greatest sports moment?
Scoring 1,000 points in high school.
Which public figure (athlete, politician, entertainer,
etc) would you most like to meet and what one question would you
ask them?
It was hard to narrow it down to one specific question but
if I were able to meet someone I would say Jay-Z. I would ask Jay-Z
what advice would he give a young person trying to be as successful
as he is.
What internships have you completed (or are a part
of now)? What benefit have you gotten out of them?
I have completed one internship over the previous summer at the
Beverly YMCA in which I learned skills needed to work in a team
environment and narrowed it down to what field I want to work
in.
If you have been involved in community service projects,
what project has been the most rewarding and why?
Last year my teammates and I went participated in two community
service projects in which we read to a local elementary school and
helped at a food pantry. The most rewarding was reading to the
elementary students because seeing them smile and laughing showed
that we made there day.
Name three things on your "bucket list".
1. Playing basketball overseas 2. Skydiving 3. Travel the
world
Where do you see yourself in 10 years after graduation?
What is your dream job?
Coaching and or Training athletes at the College/Pro
level.
What would you say to someone currently in high school who
is considering attending Endicott?
Attending here would be a great decision, it is filled with great
hard working and caring individuals who take pride in attending
this college and will definitely be a solid choice for there
future.
Is there something about you that we don't know? Tell is
something special about yourself that we haven't
asked!

playing in competitions since I was 7 and still enjoy playing on my
free time.
