Alex Jorge

Alex Jorge

Alex Jorge, a senior from Billerica, Mass., has been chosen for the focus of this installment of the “Endicott Student-Athlete Spotlight” for his works both on the field of competition, and even more important, off of it.  Alex is a Business Administration major with a concentration in Management.  We were able to catch up with the men's soccer goalkeeper and ask him a few questions for our new segment.

Why did you choose to be a Division III student-athlete?
I wanted to be able to prepare myself for my professional future through internship experience as well as classroom academics while being about to play the sport I love.

What do you like most about being a student-athlete at Endicott?
The people that I'm around. My teammates have developed into some of my best friends.

What are some of the greatest lessons you have learned from being a student-athlete?
Hard work is the key to success. In my internships and jobs I have been lucky enough to advance in my positions/pay because of my work ethic. I developed my work ethic in between the lines of a soccer field and it has carried over to my everyday life.

Who have been the most influence people in your athletic career?
My parents and sisters. From day one, they have not only given me the opportunity to pursue my athletic dreams, they have always supported me in my choices and I'm very lucky to have the family support system I've had growing up.

How would your teammates describe you?
As a leader, outgoing, and probably loud and annoying to be honest. As a goalkeeper you can't really stop talking to organize the defense, so in practice I make a point to be loud and talk some smack during shooting drills to motivate them to want to put the ball past me. I want to see them succeed because if they are scoring goals there is a lot less pressure on me.

Do you have any pre-game/pre-event rituals? If so, what are they?
I usually stay in silence in the locker before games to get my head right and lock into the game.

What is your greatest sports moment?
Making it be a starter on a college roster was always a dream of mine, I'm blessed to have it come so early in my collegiate career.

Which public figure (athlete, politician, entertainer, etc) would you most like to meet and what one question would you ask them?
Cristiano Ronaldo, What's it like to represent your country at The World Cup?

What internships have you completed (or are a part of now)? What benefit have you gotten out of them?
The two best internships I've had were at Casner and Edwards, LLP as an attorney assistant along with the semester long I am doing now at Zoom Technical Services as a Recruiter. These internships provided me with a lot of real world experience as well as the opportunity to establish relationships with some great people.

If you have been involved in community service projects, what project has been the most rewarding and why?
Working for my old church St. Mary's we had a bunch of different community service projects we did and being able to help them raise money through Christmas tree sales along with other fundraisers was rewarding.

Name three things on your "bucket list".
Visit my father's hometown in Portugal, travel as much as possible, and skydive solo.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years after graduation? What is your dream job?
Hopefully my dream job owning my own fitness center/sports complex, but if not I want to be settled into a successful career where I am happy going to work everyday.

What would you say to someone currently in high school who is considering attending Endicott?
I've not only played goalkeeper, I have also played 2 1/2 years as striker at EC and have nine career goals. Ultimately, I ended up where I belong in between the pipes.
