BEVERLY, Mass. – Following the College’s philosophy to "learn by doing" through experiential learning, 59 of Endicott's varsity and club student-athletes took part in semester-long internships this past fall. Semester-long internships typically last 14 weeks and equal 12 credits towards a student's degree.
Among the group of 59 student-athletes, 21 majors were represented, which included the following areas of study – sport management, environmental science, marketing, finance, biology & biotechnology, creative writing, entrepreneurship, and graphic design – along with several others.
Companies where our student-athletes completed their semester-long internships included, but were not limited to, Applied Photophysics, Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer & Blood Disorders Center, Horvath & Tremblay, TRACS Inc., the Harvard University Athletic Department, DreamingCode, and the Attorney General’s Office, to name a few. THE STUDENT-ATHLETE OUTCOME
Dana Ferraro (Brookfield, Conn.), Senior, Women’s Volleyball, Internship – Applied Photophysics
“I chose to intern at Applied Photophysics because I saw a great opportunity to utilize my science degree along with my business minor. As an intern here I am able to work alongside an application scientist in a lab running experiments and preparing samples, and I am also able to work with the business development manager. My coworkers are also very nice and it’s a great feeling to walk into the office in the morning knowing everyone is happy to be here.”
Ferraro on what she learned through her internship at Applied Photophysics.
“One lesson I learned is to always be willing to do something out of your comfort zone. Working in a lab has always been a possibility for my major but I never saw it as something I am confident in. As I went through the internship I would slowly take on tasks in the lab I usually wouldn’t do, and now I am confident enough in the lab to do whatever is at hand.”
Ferraro plans to continue her education at Endicott by obtaining a Master of Business Administration degree.
David Castelluccio (Reading, Mass.), Senior, Men’s Rugby, Internship – Attorney General’s Office
“I chose to work in the Criminal Bureau of the Attorney General's Office because of the wide array of cases that I would be exposed to. I had the opportunity to work closely with criminal investigators, Assistant Attorney Generals, and Massachusetts State Police Detectives to investigate crimes involving human trafficking, illegal gaming, financial fraud, and many others.”
Castelluccio on what he learned from his internship at the Attorney General’s Office.
“The most important lessons I learned from my internship came from the people I worked with. Everyone in my bureau was willing to help me get the best experience I could from day one. They taught me about investigative strategies, attention to detail, and how important collaboration is. The investigative skills I have learned by working alongside detectives and investigators will definitely help me in my future career. Problem solving skills as well as patience are crucial in the law enforcement field.”
Upon graduating, Castelluccio plans on exploring a career with the Department of Homeland Security, particularly with Immigration and Customs.
Marc Lerebours (Norwalk, Conn.), Senior, Men's Rugby, Internship - TRACS
"I chose TRACS because of their experience in the sport marketing field and their work atmosphere that allowed interns to work directly with executives."

FACTS THAT MATTER
- 98% of 2015 Endicott graduates were fully employed or attending graduate school
- 53% of students report that their full-time position was at a former internship site
- 42% of students study abroad in addition to completing two 120-hour internships (INT 100 and INT 200) for two credits each and one semester-long internship for 12 credits over 14 weeks.
THE ENDICOTT INTERNSHIP MODEL
Endicott College is a pioneer in requiring comprehensive internship experiences in every program of study for undergraduate students. A philosophy of "learning by doing" permeates the college curriculum in which students are encouraged to integrate theory and practice in all of their studies.
Through their experiences in internships students will be prepared to:
- Apply, integrate, and evaluate knowledge within a particular academic discipline
- Develop competencies for careers and community service
- Explore career options and gain field experience
- Foster personal growth through increased self-confidence, interpersonal skills, an understanding of self and others, and a heightened awareness of ethical standards
- Improve the ability to learn in a self-directed manner
